Designing Two Homes: Continuity for Kids of Divorce

Two houses, two floor plans, one kid who has to make sense of both. Real continuity isn't about matching furniture, it's about palette, layout, storage, and material choices that help a child feel instantly oriented, no matter which door they walk through.

Kids moving between houses are recalibrating constantly: new layout, different storage, unfamiliar textures and colors, a room that may or may not have been finished yet. Some kids will say this feels unsettling. Many won't, either because they don't have the words for it or have simply adapted. That doesn't mean the space isn't impacting them.
